Allison Winker, JAG editor-in-chief

This is senior Allison Winker’s third year on the JAG yearbook staff. She will be co-editor-in-chief this year, as well as a reporter and photographer. Other than yearbook, Allison is a part of the varsity debate team, NHS, student ambassadors and Relay for Life executive committee. She also loves coffee, dogs, dancing, Pinterest and all things Kansas City.

With a hot glue gun in hand, senior Ashley Ebner glues together pieces of cardboard for her sculpture on Friday, April 13. “I really enjoyed this project because it’s cool to try and make a three-dimensional object out of something two-dimensional,” Ebner said. “It was challenging to create something interesting out of a material that isn’t very interesting, but I liked it.”

As they practice using accents, drama teacher Jon Copeland reads through a script with freshman Sydney Knapp to demonstrate for the class on Friday, April 13. “The voice is one of the four acting tools and accents are one of the vocal techniques we use in acting, so that’s why we practice them,” Copeland said. “Even though most people aren’t going to be actors, everybody is going to have success in life based on how well they can communicate their ideas. Drama helps give you the confidence and communication skills to have that success.”

Rearranging strips of paper in order to create a better pattern, art teacher Krystal Strong helps senior Mikala Postlewait construct her negative space project during drawing class on Tuesday, April 10. “I chose to draw a bike for my project. We created three drawings and used three different mediums for each one. After finishing the drawings, I cut away the negative space and created a different background,” Postlewait said. “I enjoyed being able to choose what I wanted to draw and being able to use different mediums for each drawing because I got to use things that I hadn’t experimented with before, like charcoal.”

During a five-minute sketching practice to warm-up for class called ‘Tutu Tuesday,’ sophomore Keegan Byrne stands on a table to model for fellow students on Tuesday, April 10. “When we do ‘Tutu Tuesday,’ two people stand on the tables and the other students have to draw us,” Byrne said. “It’s a quick little exercise that is good practice and gets everyone in the right mindset for the class.”
