Taking place in the main gym, StuCo hosted the annual Winter Homecoming pep assembly on Tuesday, Feb. 10. The assembly featured various games and special recognition for cheer, flag football, scholars bowl, bowling and shout-outs to choir performers and junior Abigale Stidham for her extraordinary swim achievements.
Included in those acknowledgments was junior Kate Mikuls, who was specially recognized for her remarkable flag football season. Mikuls explains how much it meant to be appreciated in front of her peers.
“It felt really rewarding to see what my teammates and I have earned through all of our hard work, and being called out during the assembly made it really special,” Mikuls said. “Personally, I am very thankful for my shoutout. It was like validation for my hard work and all the obstacles I’ve had to overcome.”
Additionally, the assembly held a segment to introduce the winter homecoming court candidates through playful duo costumes and a wig snatching competition. Senior Sienna Suderman explains what it felt like to participate in the assembly.
“I had a lot of fun, but I was pretty nervous to go out there,” Suderman said. “I had a really good time during the wig snatching, and I had a good strategy beforehand. I went out thinking, just go for the wig and don’t let anything get in my way. But once the game started, I immediately got out. I still had a lot of fun, though.”
StuCo member junior Reese Miller provides insight into some of the planning for the assembly.
“Everyone had little jobs to do to prepare everything, and junior Avery Huber put in a lot of work by planning out most of the script,” Miller said. “The morning of, we got to school around seven and did a couple of rehearsals. We wanted to be prepared and put on a fun event for the entire school.”
Apart from the wig snatching competition, there were a few other events, including a performance from the Silver Stars, a game of musical chairs and a series of pies to teachers’ faces. However, for Mikuls, the wig snatching contest was her favorite.
“It was so fun watching everyone run around, holding onto their wigs and chasing each other,” Mikuls said. “The ending was really funny too, because everyone started jumping on top of each other to grab each other’s wigs, and it was really fun to watch.”
The assembly ended with a reminder to vote for the queen and king of Winter Homecoming, taking place in the form of trivia night, Friday, Feb. 13.
