Robotics prepares for first competition

The Robotics team is going to the Cow Town ThrowDown competition on Saturday, Nov. 5 on Cerner campus. The competition starts at 8:30 a.m. and welcomes fans to come and support. This will be the freshmen’s first competition and will give them the familiarity of what a competition is like.

Junior Chris Gillespie has been preparing the freshmen for their first competition.

“I’ve been teaching the freshmen how to drive robots and how a robot really works. I’ve also taught them how to fix [the robot],” Gillespie said.

Freshman Tim Justice likes being in robotics so far.

“[Robotics is] very fun. There are lots of interesting people. My favorite part was getting to fire the robot,” Justice said.

Freshman Kyal Long also enjoys Robotics.

“I really like it. The people are awesome and the work is fun. I like to drive the robots and fix them as well,” Long said.

Robotics president Ryan Hannah anticipates on doing well.

“[We expect to do] very well. Last year we got sixth out of 56 teams. This year we are better because we have a good team,” Hannah said.
