Director announces cast list for A Midsummer Nights Dream

Director Jon Copeland recently posted the cast list of this year’s play A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare. The leads are as follows:

Lysander played by senior Brayton Young

Hermia played by sophomore Olivia Phillips

Demetrius played by senior Drew Smith

Helena played by junior Allison Mackey

The rest of the cast list can be found on Copeland’s website here.

This is the first time the school will perform a Shakespearean play and Copeland wants to make the play simple for the audience to understand.

“My goal is to make [the play] very user friendly for the audience,” Copeland said. “Help the actors develop their talents so that the meaning of the lines is totally clear by the emotions and actions of the actors.”

Sophomore Clare Young, who will play Hippolyta, can’t wait to spend time with the cast.

“The thing I look forward to the most is getting to meet new people and make new friends,” Clare Young said. “Also, I get to hangout with all of my friends and put on a great production for everyone to watch. It’s like we’re a huge family.”

Sophomore Meghan Fuller, who will play a Citizen of Athens, anticipates a successful showing.

“[I am looking forward to] the final product being pulled together and everyone enjoying it,” Fuller said.

Copeland is excited to put on one of Shakespeare’s comedies.

“It’s a farce. I love comedy and I love physical humor and this show has both,” Copeland said. “It will be a lot of fun to stage the crazy situations.”

The play will be performed Friday, May 4 and Saturday, May 5 at 7 p.m.
