We have all been there, having difficult teachers who dislike us or who we dislike. Not everyone will always be your cup of tea and vice versa. Problematic teachers can cause classes to seem painfully long and the workload to seem extra strenuous. If a specific class, or maybe even several come to mind while reading this then you may be able to use a few of my tips on how to deal with these troublesome teachers.

1. Make an attempt to walk in their shoes. Try to understand why they act the way they do and maybe even ask a friend what they think of them. Getting different perspectives can make you more open minded and accepting.

2. Act mature. Acting like a little kid will only result in trouble. If the teacher does not like you and you are acting immature, it will only cause them to dislike you more. Be the bigger person and act your age in order to gain respect.

3. Do all of your work. Even if you dislike the class and you find it to be boring, you still need to complete all of the required work. If you don’t do the work you’re only hurting yourself.

4. Think before you speak. This can be especially hard to do around people you don’t particularly like, but it’s important to work on being respectful rather than reckless. No matter how badly you want to give them a piece of your mind on their behavior towards students or hours upon hours of outside class work, yelling at them and being disrespectful will only get you a trip to the office.

5. Use their behavior as a way not to act. There is a quote I really like, “I’m appreciative of all the difficult people in my life for giving me an example of what I don’t want to be.” I think this quote is really good for all situations when you aren’t fond of someone or their choices.

6. Avoid them when possible. If you’re struggling in that class and they aren’t any help, visit other teachers who teach the same subject. If this doesn’t work, ask friends for help and try not to not miss their class so you don’t have to make up extra work.

It’s possible guys and even if it seems like the class will never end, the year will be over before you know it. Use this problem as a way to gain more experience and try to keep a positive outlook.
