Week 27: State bound

Week 27: State bound

The regional results are finally in!

Sarah speaking:

After about a week of waiting, the yearbooks and newspaper staffs finally were informed of KSPA regional journalism competition results. A total of 31 entries (in both on-site and off-site competitions) placed in the regional competition. This means that many of our staff members earned either first, second or third place or honorable mention in a contest, and will advance to the state competition. This is the highest number of entries our staff has ever had qualified for state (the second highest being around 24). I love seeing returning staff members and new staff members, alike, win awards they never thought they could. Every state qualifier will receive a state bag from the school filled with goodies and maybe there will be T-shirts made for our staff in the coming weeks. I couldn’t be more proud.

Jill speaking:

I am so excited that we have so many people going to state this year. It shows how strong both the yearbook and newspaper staffs are. It also means we can sweep it at the state competition (knock on wood). State is something I always look forward to, because it is where the best of the best from our state convene and get to showcase some awesome skills. It is always a very exciting and nerve wracking day, and it comes in the wonderful month of May, so everyone is in a good mood with the end of school in sight. It was exciting to see that some people who are newcomers to the competitions also qualified for state, because my first year at regionals was extremely scary. I am so proud of everyone that did their best at the regional competition, and I think we are going to be very successful going into state.

Lesson of the week: Our staffs rock.

Lesson 27 of being an editor-in-chief: Check.
