In order to help raise awareness for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, NHS helped set up for the ALS walk at Arrowhead Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 27

Junior Annie Dillon was one of the students that helped set up for approximately 5,000 people that morning

“When we got there we were assigned to groups and our group was at a tent where we set up tables and organized shirts,” Dillon said.

ALS causes muscle weakness, paralysis, and in the end, respiratory failure. It is estimated that 450,000 people worldwide have the disease, with the new approaches to raising awareness, people have begun taking more action to spread the word.

“It’s important to raise money and awareness for ALS,” Dillon said. “We want to try to help [those diagnosed].”

Although the NHS members did not stay for the actual walk, they all agreed it was well worth it to go help out.

“We got to spend time with out friends and put signs up,” Dillon said. “The whole [set up] was really fun.”
