NAHS held its annual Chili Bowl sale on Friday, Jan. 27 to raise funds for the school’s art department and to display the multitude of artwork students have created throughout the semester.

The sale was held from 5 p.m. through 8 p.m. in the commons. The meals it sold consisted of chili, crackers, bread, a dessert and a drink. However, customers could also choose to purchase a variety of different bowls that student artists had handmade and designed.

Parliament member Durga Jambunathan enjoys putting on the Chili Bowl because of the display of student artwork.

“The Chili bowl is a fundraiser for NAHS and we mainly just want to showcase the school’s art from different classes like Ceramics, Drawing, Art Foundations and AP Studio art,” Jambunathan said. “I think my favorite part is seeing everything displayed and other club members showing off their abilities and skills.”

On the other hand, Varsity member Marissa Olin, who has been in NAHS since she was a freshman, likes raising money for the club because of the good memories she has made.

“We have a really strong group of people who are really dedicated to art and put in a lot of time to so many activities here,” Olin said. “It’s a really nice place with all of the best people and great opportunities to do art.”

Likewise, Jambunathan raises money for the club because of the welcoming atmosphere.

“[NAHS] was the first club I joined when I came to Mill Valley and I’ve always been the art person in my friend group,” Jambunathan said. “It was a welcoming community, which is perfect because this is the place for me.”
