KCTV5 hosts Cool School event

Over 700 students attended the live broadcast for KCTV5’s Cool School of the Week on Friday, Oct. 28. The Activities Entrance opened at 4 a.m. for all students ready to display school spirit.

KCTV5 shot both live reports with students at the assembly and prerecorded ones for their weekly Cool School of the Week broadcast. The Robotics team, journalism, broadcast, the drama department, drum line and the football players who read to the elementary schools each got featured in a report. To keep the energy up, StuCo held games and competitions in between the reports. Students in attendance were treated to a breakfast from Chris Cakes.

StuCo sponsor Erica Crist is thrilled with how the assembly went.

“It was awesome,” Crist said. “I’m very proud of the student body, and all the teachers who did behind-the-scenes work to make it all happen.”

KCTV5’s location reporter Iris Hermosillo said that Cool School is a great chance for students to displays their achievements.

“I think it’s an honor because it gives students the oppurtunity to…showcase across the metro and be the cool school,” Hermosillo said.

While excitement was high through out the assembly, many students had trouble with the early hours. However, those who came were rewarded with a noon dismissal.

“I’m really tired,” sophomore Kellyne Weathers said. “Expecting us to be here at 4 a.m. is madness.”

Even so, the Cool School assembly was spirited and energetic.

“This is my fifth year teaching here, and it is the most spirited year, among students and staff,” Crist said. “I can truly say that I’m proud to be a Jaguar.”

Hermosillo agrees.

“I thought the atmosphere was great,” Hermosillo said. “I was pleasantly surprised that there were so many students ready to go at 5 a.m. It really shows me that your student body cares so much about its school that waking up super early is no problem. So overall I had a great time. I think my ears are still buzzing from how loud Mill Valley was, but that’s not a bad thing.”
