Cross country begins season with first meet

The cross country team officially started their season on Thursday, Sept. 1. Being the first meet, the teams only needed to run two miles as opposed to the usual 3.1 miles. The meet started around 4 p.m. despite the 103 degree weather, the hottest meet the team has ever attended.

Junior Chris Gillespie led the boys cross country team with a time of 11:23 and placing seventh out of 95 runners. The girls team was lead by sophomore Bailey Parke who placed 10th out of 63 runners with a time of 14:44. Each individual’s time determines whether or not they make varsity for the following meet. Varsity consists of seven runners for both the boys and girls teams.

 The boys varsity runners for the following meet are: Gillespie, junior Andrew Eigsti, sophomore Bobby Hellon, sophomore Landon Scott, senior Connor Mehalovich, junior Stephen McEnery, and freshman Callahan Eckhardt.

 The girls varsity runnners for the upcoming meet are: Parke, sophomore Meagann Parsons, sophomore Mariah Kalma, sophomore Holly Peterman, sophomore Jasmine Hitt, freshman Maddie Butterfield, and sophomore Amanda Curtright.
