Vital Voices is a new club at the school that educates students who want to go into the healthcare field and provides them with opportunities to get more hands on work and volunteer experience.
Senior Mae Reynolds, the president of Vital Voices, worked last year to create the club.
“I started Vital Voices because I wanted a space where students interested in healthcare could connect, learn and make a real difference in our school and community,” Reynolds said via text. “There wasn’t really a place where students could explore healthcare careers in a hands-on way, so I wanted to create one.”
Although the club hasn’t done anything yet, they plan on bringing in guest speakers, doing volunteer projects, holding fundraisers for health-related causes and organizing educational activities for all students to learn from.
Any student can join the club, whether they want to do it to better learn the healthcare field or want more chances to volunteer in their community. Reynolds believes that students should join to expand their interests.
“Members will meet new people, build meaningful connections, gain experience and discover whether a healthcare career is right for them, all while giving back to the community,” Reynolds said.
Vice President, senior Liberty Bouskill, thinks students should join for the beneficial opportunities it will provide.
“If you’re wanting to go into healthcare, it’s a really great opportunity for you to job shadow and test that out and see,” Bouskill said. “We want to just help the community, and it’s a good opportunity [to do so].”
Sophomore Hollie Chen joined because she plans on being a pediatric dentist.
“I want to help people. Getting experience from volunteering [will help] because she’s also getting us hospital experience,” Chen said. “I feel like that will help me because then I’ll get a layout of the hospital and how things work there.”
Students interested in joining can find Vital Voices in room A-204 at 7:20 twice a month.
