The girls volleyball team dominated Shawnee Mission East in their first home game, winning all three sets.
According to junior Riley Riggs, the success of the team is truly a team effort.
“It felt good. We worked hard and stayed focused, so it was rewarding to see it pay off,” Riggs said, “We stay positive, encourage each other, and talk constantly to stay connected.”
Senior Leilah Perry explains the process of preparing for games such as this one
“We did a scouting report before the game so we could know the team’s strengths and weaknesses,” Perry said. “We always say, ‘fake it till we make it,’ and that helped us a lot.”
Since this was the first home game of the season, emotions ran high for seniors such as Perry.
“Stepping out for the first time was surreal,” Perry said. “It was my last first home game ever as a Jaguar.”
Sophomore Sophia Sturdy echoed Perry’s statement about the energy at the game.
“We talked a lot about defending our home court,” Sturdy said. “I love stepping onto the court with my teammates—we always bring the energy and have fun competing together.”
