At the Quizbowl tournament at Bonner Springs High School, team members focus on the question, fingers ready to hit their buzzers.

The varsity Quiz Bowl team placed first at its meet on Tuesday, Oct. 21 at Bonner. The team won 110-30 against 18 other schools that competed.

Junior Patrick Gambill said he was surprised by the team’s high ranking.

“We always do well at meets and there were smaller schools than normal competing,” Gambill said, “but I wasn’t expecting us to win first place.”

The team prepared well for the meet, according to junior Karla Kim.

“In our practices we cover a lot of questions each day, and several of those questions showed up at the meet so we were able to answer them quickly,” Kim said, “It was awesome to see our hard work get the results we wanted.”

Gambill said he enjoyed the meet.

“Our team was well balanced and helped each other,” Gambill said, “Quiz bowl meets are always relaxing because even though it’s a competition it doesn’t feel extremely competitive, like a sport would.”
