The grand jury scheduled to review the shooting of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin in Sanford, Fla. on Tuesday, April 10 was canceled. The grand jury was to determine whether the neighborhood watch volunteer, George Zimmerman, who shot Martin, would be charged for the murder.

Angela Corey, the prosecutor in charge of the case, announced on Monday, April 9 that the case would not go to a grand jury.

According to an interview with CNN, Corey’s decision was not a surprise for Hal Uhrig, Zimmerman’s attorney.

“Don’t know what her decision will be. Courageous move on her part,” Uhrig said.

Zimmerman told police that he shot Martin out of self-defense. Police did not arrested Zimmerman for the Sunday, Feb. 26 shooting, which has prompted protests called for action.

Former New York prosecutor Paul Callan told CNN that he expected Corey to make a decision quickly on whether to file criminal charges against Zimmerman.

“I think you’ll see her come down with charges probably very, very soon,” Callan said.
