Train derails near Topeka

Two Union Pacific trains derailed near Topeka at approximately 11:55 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 14 according to Union Pacific spokesman Mark Davis. The collision occurred northeast of Topeka near NE Paramore and Grantville Road according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

No injuries have been reported and clean-up is underway. Video from KMBC-TV shows several coal cars off the tracks. Further details are not available.

This derailment comes just over two months after a Union Pacific freight train derailed an estimated 40 miles northwest of Topeka at 3:50 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 5. In all, 56 coal cars were derailed and a 1,270-foot bridge running over Cross Creek was damaged. The cause of this derailment was never reported.
