When the Catty Shack reopened on Thursday, Sept. 11, excitement passed through long lines of students waiting their turn to purchase snacks.
Catty Shack president Miley Strathman said that the anticipation and new promotion drew the large crowd.
“We ended up selling a lot of products. It went really well,” Strathman said. “We had a mystery bag promotion that I ended up doing pretty good, and people were just excited. Our line was pretty long.”
According to Strathman, the staff was more prepared than during previous opening days.
“I would say it went a little better this year, just because everyone in the Caddy Shack pretty much had already worked last year, so we knew what to expect, and it went pretty smooth,” Strathman said.
Catty Shack adviser and Business teacher Kurt Golubski agreed with Strathman about the success of staff on opening day.
“When I was new last year, I only had one person that was a returner…But this year, I have 10 returners, so it makes it flow a little bit easier,” Golubski said. “As soon as we got here, the first day, we hit the ground running, and we knew that we could do things a lot quicker. And we actually opened up quicker this year than we did last year.”
Popular food items such as energy drinks are in high demand at the school, which increases popularity and causes people to race to the Catty Shack and compete for items. Golubski explained how the development of the menu is centered around customer trends.
“We’ll bring in some new stuff that was trendy over the summer, like the Bloom that became a big thing,” Golubski said. “We introduced that [energy drink] this year.”
