Social studies teacher Mike Bennett

Social Studies teacher Mike Bennett comes to Mill Valley from Monticello Trails

What have your past teaching experiences been like?

Well previously, the last two years I’ve been at Monticello Trails Middle School teaching seventh grade social studies. Before that,  I taught in a school district in Missouri called Hallsville.  My first five years there I taught eighth grade social studies. Then the next two years, I taught Physical Education, Health, and Government, or Civics in the high school.

Why did you choose to be a history teacher?

I really enjoyed the realm of history. I really liked listening to my history professors talk and tell about the stories that they were trying to relate to what we were discussing that day. So it was just something that I enjoyed.

What do you think Mill Valley will be like?

I think it’ll be a change. Obviously coming from a middle school to a high school, but being a coach in the school district and the school, I don’t think it’ll be such a dramatic change. It’ll be nice to be up here.

What school did you attend?

Missouri Western State University.

Why did you choose to teach a high school?

Right out of the gate,  I knew I wanted to be a coach and so I wanted to be near the kids that I was going to coach, so high school was the right fit for me.

If any, what are your goals teaching-wise this school year?

Creating relationships with the students, getting to know them and trying to help them academically any way I can.

What do you want your students to know about you?

I don’t know, I’m pretty laid back. I enjoy a lot of the things they enjoy, so it should be a good fit.
