Silver Stars dance team competes in the Miss Kansas Dance competition

The Silver Stars dance team competed in the Miss Kansas Dance competition, Friday, Jan. 13 – Saturday, Jan. 14 at Olathe South High School.

The team had two solo dancers, freshman Macie Rouse and junior lieutenant Cody Moore, who received the highest rating in the dance solo category. The duets that received the highest rating were senior captain Amanda Morgan and senior Paige Hillebert, and sophomore Brittany Rouse and freshman Macie Rouse. The ensembles that received the highest rating were a freshman ensemble with freshmen Morgan McLeroy, Isabelle Acree, Allison Eigsti and Joyce Friedel. The other ensemble was a hip-hop ensemble with juniors Hattie Doolittle, Hailee Windsor, Caroline Kain and Anna Hughes, sophomore Brittany Rouse, freshmen Macie Rouse and Morgan McLeroy and senior Amanda Morgan.

The overall Silver Stars dance team won the Officer Award, Choreography Award for hip-hop, Technical Excellence Award for novelty and contemporary, Showmanship Award for jazz, Sweepstakes Award and Shining Star Award.

Rouse said that the team improved.

“I think we did very well and everyone improved a lot from the last competition,” Rouse said.

Coach Daley Reed says that the team will be going over changes for the next competition.

“We are going to work hard this week to improve for Kansas Spectacular this weekend,” Reed said. “We will be going over the judge’s critiques and making any changes we feel will be beneficial.”

The Silver Stars’ next competition is Friday, Jan. 20 – Saturday, Jan. 21 at Olathe East High School.
