President scheduled to visit Osawatamie

President Barack Obama is scheduled to speak after 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 6 at Osawatamie High School. The speech will address the economic issues still facing the nation.

According to the Kansas City Star, city officials are considering the president’s visit the city’s most historic event in over 100 years. The event is the first presidential visit to Osawatamie since 1910, when Theodore Roosevelt delivered his “New Nationalism” speech.

The president is expected to spend approximately four hours on his visit, according to his arrival and departure times from Kansas City International Airport. Several hundred tickets to hear his speech were given away on Saturday, Dec. 3.

“I’ve not heard anybody unhappy about not getting a ticket, honestly,” the mayor said in an interview with the Kansas City Star. “Everyone is amped up and happy and waiting for this historic occasion to occur.”
