Math Teacher Andy Preston

An interview with new math teacher Andy Preston.

What subject are you teaching?

I’m teaching freshmen math, or Integrated Math I.

Did you transfer from another school or is this your first year teaching?

I transferred. This is my sixth year teachingI have spent the last 4 years teaching at Newton High School. I taught math there as well and I was the basketball coach and the assistant baseball coach there.

How do you think you’ll do at Mill Valley?

I think I’ll like it a lot. From what I’ve heard, sounds like it’s a great school to be at. There’s a lot of great kids here.

What do you expect your students to know coming into your class?

Well, they’re freshmen and to be honest I’m not sure. The math setup here is a little different than what I’ve taught at before. I’m hoping to have students who are caring, knowledgeable and know how to follow directions and listen.

What made you want to go into a teaching profession?

It was actually my math teacher in high school who was an inspirational teacher to me. It was something I wanted to do and I wanted to work with kids. It’s been important to me serving younger people like he did for me and I really enjoy that. He gave me a lot of inspiration.

What is your favorite part about teaching?

My favorite part is probably getting to work with kids everyday. Just to be able to work with younger people. They keep you fresh and energetic. There is never a dull moment.
