Jaguars beat Chieftains 59-0

The Jaguars won their football game against the Tonganoxie Chieftains on Friday, Sept. 21, 59-0.

Senior safety Ryan Bath felt that this victory could be attributed to hard work both inside and outside of practice.

“What made us most successful was just being prepared,” Bath said. “Obviously the score tells a lot. We always watch film on our own time and during practice so we can get used to [other teams’] offenses.”

Aside from the final score, Bath most enjoyed seeing the future starters go in to play.

“It’s good for them to get some playing time so they can feel what it feels like to play in a varsity game in the varsity setting,” Bath said.

Despite their advantages over the Chieftains, senior Tim Thomas noted the importance of playing teams early in the season that can create more of a challenge.

“Early in the season we like to be challenged so when weeks 10, 11 and 12 come around we are ready to go. But it felt pretty exceptional [to win 59-0,]” Thomas said. “Especially the zero part because as a defense we yearn to shut out every team that we play.”

Both Bath and Thomas felt that this victory foreshadowed how they will perform next week.

“[Bonner Springs] is a good team with solid athletes so we’ll have to play soundly,” Thomas said. “We anticipate a challenge but we anticipate a win as well.”
