Both the girls and boys track team placed in the meet at the Olathe District Activities Complex on Friday, April 8, the girls earning third place and the boys receiving fourth.

Freshman Delaney Kemp, who broke the school record for the 3200 at the meet, is satisfied with the team’s overall performance.

“The meet went really well and a lot of us ran our best times,” Kemp said.

Sophomore Tyler Coad concurs with Kemp on the team’s performance.

“Everyone did well. They ran and threw well,” Coad said. “We set some new [personal records].”

Even though a difficult aspect of the meet was being among larger schools, Coad sees the positive in the team.

“We’re well balanced all around, so we don’t have just one good group,” Coad said. “We have multiple good athletes from throwers to sprinters to distance runners.”

Something that Kemp praises the varsity team members for is the constant support and encouragement that they give each other throughout the season.

“We’re always there for each other’s events and we’re just a really good all-around team,” Kemp said. “We have really good competitors in pretty much every event.”

The next meet is Friday, April 15 at Shawnee Mission West.
