A victory by the varsity volleyball team on Thursday, Oct. 4 against De Soto High School marked the ending of the fourth annual Dig Pink Volleyball match. 

Former head volleyball coach Kimberly Service began the tradition to raise awareness for breast cancer.

“Considering October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, it’s something that both schools think is important,” junior varsity member Gabby Fangman said.

Each player wore pink to show that they were playing for a cause.  

“I know I was thinking of the women in my life that have had breast cancer,” Fangman said. “I reflected on that before the game.”

While donations are not given at the match, the thought and support represented by the team is a significant gesture towards breast cancer awareness.

 Only three out of five games were played, the lady jaguars taking each victory.  

“We didn’t play our best but we got the outcome we wanted and beat De Soto,” Fangman said.
