Football team makes it to state playoffs

With their 35-15 win against Turner High School on Friday, Oct. 29, the Jaguars clinched a spot in the state playoffs, and are now looking ahead to their next game against Shawnee Heights High School.

Junior cornerback Ryan Bath thinks the team has a chance to pull off a win on Friday.

“I think we play faster [than Shawnee Heights],” Bath said. “The offense and defense need to come out ready to play from the very beginning.”

A spirit bus will provide transportation for students wishing to attend the game in Topeka on Friday, Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. A sign-up sheet will be in the office this week for students who want to go to the game. Each student will need to bring $4 when they sign up to pay for admission into the game.

“We will have as many [spirit buses] as we need, assuming we can find drivers,” athletic director Matt Fedde said.

The hope is that students will be excited about supporting the team and creating a spirited environment for the team.

“I think it’s great to have any activity in this building be supported,” Fedde said. “I would love for every activity to have a great amount of [fan support].”

Last year, the Jags lost their first playoff game, also against Shawnee Heights. Bath thinks that the team has improved as a whole since then.

“The defense has improved greatly since last year,” Bath said. “We play with more emotion and we are closer to each other as a family.”

He also thinks that the last two wins have given the Jaguars an advantage over Shawnee Heights, but he is still keeping his sights on winning.

“I think they gave us more momentum and gave us something positive,” Bath said. “I am focusing on the win. It’s just about having a good week at practice to help us be prepared for the game.”
