Food drive extended, falls short of expectations

The annual food drive, originally spanning from Monday, Nov. 1 through Friday, Nov. 5, was extended due to lack of advisertisements and participation. StuCo will still be collecting canned and nonperishable food items until Friday, Nov. 12.

StuCo sponsor Erica Crist shows her disappointment in student participation.

“It’s dismal,” Crist said. “Probably one reason for the small turnout is that we didn’t make it a contest. Students should want to give, they shouldn’t have to receive big prizes.”

In previous years, seminars competed to bring in the most food items, with the winning seminar earning a pizza party. This year, there was no seminar competition and the emphasis was put on each grade level.

“Seminar teachers did a good job of advertising for us in past years,” Crist said. “[Losing that this year] hurt us.”
