District explores outsourcing technology management

Following the March Board of Education meeting, the district began contract negotiations with K 12 ITC, a technology company that works with school districts in the Greater Kansas City area, in order to examine outsourcing technology next year.

According to Jessica Dain, district director of professional and program development, the district currently responds to repair issues internally.

“Our team is currently working overtime in order to meet the needs of our students and staff,” Dain said via email.

Most of the final details about an outsourcing contract still remain to be determined. However, Dain and Lisa Lund, interim technology integration coordinator, who address technology issues currently, stand to have a change in job description should the contract negotiations be approved by the Board of Education.

Dain and Lund would primarily work with the outsourcing company to manage technology.

Although, according to Dain, most districts manage technology internally, Dain sees benefits in outsourcing such oversight.

“The district would see improved support, streamlined process for software installations and overall secure and safe network,” Dain said. “The goal would be for both teachers and students to feel no disruption in service and find they receive even better service.”

Details of the contract negotiations will be presented to the Board of Education for approval on Monday, May 7. The meeting begins at 6 p.m. at the district Administration/Board of Education building in De Soto.
