Daily announcements for Tuesday, Feb. 7

Students – Help StuCo “Kiss Off Leukemia” by purchasing a Valentine’s Candy Gram for $1 at lunch this week. Candy Grams will be delivered during seminar on Tuesday, Feb. 14, and the proceeds from the sale will benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

StuCo members – work your lunches every day this week to sell candy grams.

The first day of track practice is quickly approaching. All students interested in participating in track need to turn paperwork in to coach Dunback ASAP. If you need a copy of the paperwork packet, he has extras. The first day of practice is on Monday, Feb. 27.

The StuCo meeting for those helping plan the Queen of Winter Sports assembly will be in club sponsor Erica Crist’s room during seminar tomorrow, Wednesday, Feb. 8.

Art club will meet this Thursday, Feb. 9 at 3 p.m. We will meet our new officers and begin idea development for our Mural Concepts.

Attention all seminars. We are going for the Green with a food drive to help support Harvesters. We will register as a school and the school that collects the most meals will win the traveling trophy and a free entry into the 2013 St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

Here is how it will work: Bring in needed canned food, veggies, fruit, boxed meals, peanut butter, soup … to your seminar and Jag members will come and collect it. We will keep track and the seminar that collects the most will receive an ice cream Sundae party. We will begin collecting on Wednesday, Feb. 8 and collect through Saturday, March 17. Please be generous.

Attention students planning on going on the Madrid and Paris trip, there will be a mandatory meeting for parents and students this Thursday, Feb. 9 at 5:30 p.m. in the media center. If you have any questions or think you will not be able to attend, you must contact French teacher Kim Service or Spanish teacher Edith Paredes before then.

The student leadership team will meet this Wednesday, Feb.8 in the band room. Please report directly to the band room at 2:15 p.m. Attendance will be taken at the meeting. If you cannot attend, stop by the counseling office and let counselor Erin Hayes know.

NHS will host the “know ya Boo” dating game show on Monday, Feb. 13 in seminar. Each grade, including the staff, will be represented by one couple in the competition. Come support the couple from your grade and enjoy the entertainment with hosts seniors Devin Rudicel and Robbie Weber. Purchase tickets for $1 this week before school or for $2 at the door.

All Jag and art club members interested in helping with the chili bowl sale, please come sign up in art teacher Jodi Ellis’ room, art teacher Erica Crist’s room or art teacher Jerry Howard’s room.

Anyone interested in helping with Heart to Heart at the warehouse on Saturday, Feb. 18 from 9-12 a.m. packing supplies please sign up on art teacher Jodi Ellis’ door. More information will be provided on the sign up sheet or see junior CJ Hopkins.

Anyone interested in attending Harvesters on Wednesday, Feb. 8 from 3- 6:30 p.m. please sign up on Ellis’ door.

Voyager students: join us for the exciting conclusion of the socratic video on Wednesday, Feb. 8, Silver two. Don’t worry if you missed part one; we’ll bring you up to speed.

This Friday, Feb. 10 is the Johnson County Community College, Spring enrollment deadline for students wanting the additional five hours of foreign language credit in French IV and Spanish IV classes.

Next Monday, Feb. 13 is the deadline for seniors to RSVP online at www.jccc.edu/campus-visit for the Monday Feb. 20 senior day at JCCC.

Ed-tech students are to attend Eudora High School classes next Thursday, Feb. 16. Bus service will be provided at the usual departure and return times.

The Jaguar forensic team competed at St. Thomas Aquinas last Saturday, Feb. 4. The Jaguars came home with 12 medals. Notable accomplishments were sophomore Claire Young, who took second out of 43 competitors in prose along with junior Megan Marquardt, who came in sixth with prose. Young also place fourth out of 45 competitors in the poetry
division. Mill Valley High School took third in duet, performed by senior Josh Duden and junior Hailee Windsor, fourth in duet by senior Hannah Brinker and sophomore Victoria Kilkenny, and fifth in duet performed by junior Daniel Ward and sophomore Kara Lewis. It was a good Saturday for the team, and they are preparing for their next meet at Olathe North High School.
