Daily announcements for Monday, Jan. 9

The cafeteria will not have Pizza Hut pizza available tomorrow.

Off season workouts will begin today after school.

English teacher Kristen Crosbie’s Blue One AP Comp and Rhetoric class need to stop by during seminar or right after school to pick up their homework assignment if you didn’t get it before leaving class.

All individuals that will be trying out for the baseball program need to come to a mandatory meeting Friday, Jan. 13. The meeting will be in room A217 and will begin at 2:30 p.m.

Voyager students: don’t miss the first Socratic Seminar of the new year on Wednesday, Jan. 11, Blue Four. Stop by the
Voyager room to sign up and take a packet to read before the seminar.

There will be a meeting Friday, Jan. 13, during seminar, in the theater for all athletes who are considering going out for track and field this spring. Information and paperwork will be given out at this time. Please attend if you are considering coming out for track.

Any girl wanting to tryout for soccer this spring needs to see the announcements on the team website.

There are eight spaces left in the February ACT test prep class for interested college bound juniors. The class meets on Thursday, Jan. 19, Thursday, Jan. 26, and Thursday, Feb. 2. The class fee is $80. Students can sign up and pay the class
fee in the counseling office or download an application from the counseling website.

Drivers education forms are available for the class that will start Wednesday, Jan. 18. Forms are in the office and online. The cost is $200.

Powerlifting Meet this past Saturday:
Blake Miles – 165 lbs men’s division – 3rd Overall, 1st in the Hang Clean with a new meet record of 285 lbs
Knute Holden – 198 lbs men’s division – 2nd Overall
Kendall Short – 198 lbs men’s division – 1st in the Hang Clean
Anthony Bator – Heavy weight men’s division – 6th Overall
Henry Midyett – 165 lbs Jr. division – 3rd Overall
Tyler Willard – 165 lbs Jr. division – 6th Overall
TJ Phillips – 181 lbs Jr. division – 1st Overall, 1st in the Squad with a new meet record of 370 lbs
Ryan Smith – HWT Jr. division – 1st in Bench with a new meet record of 305 lbs

Mill Valley sent twelve competitors and placed sixth as a team, out of 35 teams. The meet included over 580 individual lifters. Congratulations and job well done. The next meet we will compete at, as a team, will be the 5A state meet on Saturday, Mar. 10.

The Mill Valley Wrestling team traveled to Derby this past weekend and finished seventh out of 16 teams. The team really wrestled hard and showed major improvements by all wrestlers. The following placed at the tournament:
Sophomore Tyler Dickman took second at 126 pounds. Senior Zach Callahan took second at 285 pounds. Senior Christian Service took third at 145 pounds. Sophomore Daniel Gray took fifth at 120 pounds. Sophomore Jake Ellis took fifth at 138 pounds. Gray was awarded varsity wrestler of the week.

Congratulations to the girls basketball team on their third straight win. The Lady Jags defeated Tonganoxie 45-28 last Friday, Jan. 6. They will return to action tomorrow night at 6:00 p.m. when they take on Bishop Ward at Kansas
City Kansas Community College.

The boys basketball team improved to four and two on the season with a Friday night victory over Tonganoxie. The team trailed by three at the end of the first half and trailed the Chieftains 37-44 midway through the third quarter before taking control of the game with a 22-2 run. sophomore Nick Friesner and junior Brett Hamilton turned in strong fourth quarter scoring, combining for 15 points. Friesner scored 16 points on the night; Hamilton scored 13. Junior Kyle Kain added 8. Junior Nathan Stacy led the Jaguars with 26 points and 16 rebounds.
