Daily announcements for Monday, Jan. 30

All quiz bowl members who can help work the tournament after school on Thursday, Feb. 2, please come to science teacher Mary Beth Mattinlgy’s room after school tomorrow. Other students who said they can help please come too.

We will have lost and found items in the commons this week. Please check the table and clothes rack for your items. Jewelry, keys and small items will be in the office.

Voyager students: don’t miss the fantastic Socratic video honoring Black History Month. Part 1 is Thursday, Feb. 2 during silver 4. Check out the poster on our door.

There will be a football informational meeting today during seminar in the senior cafe. This meeting will be for anyone interested in playing football, or anyone interested in being a football manager next fall. We will be covering summer information as well as other topics.

All boys interested in trying out for the golf team need to meet in coach Adam Wessel’s room, A203 on Tuesday, Jan. 31 immediately following school.

Auditions for the spring play, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” are today starting at 3:30 p.m. Those wishing to audition must sign up for a specific time on the sign-up sheets outside of the drama room. See drama teacher Jon Copeland for information about what you need to prepare for auditions.

Friday, Feb. 10 is the Johnson County Community College spring enrollment deadline for students wanting the additional five credits in Spanish four and French four. The JCCC admissions office will be open this Saturday, Feb. 4, from 9 a.m. 1 p.m. for those foreign language students needing enrollment assistance.

Student ambassadors: your help is needed with parent-teacher conferences. Stop by the counseling office to find out more information.

The counseling office has just received information about a Commerce Bank part-time teller position. Please stop by for more information.

The varsity wrestling team traveled to Chanute this past weekend and finished fourth place out of 14 teams behind Andover Central, Derby and Pittsburg. The following individuals placed at the tournament: sophomore Tyler Dickman got first at 126 pounds, senior Zach Callahan got first at 285 pounds, sophomore Jake Ellis got third at 138 pounds, sophomore Jake Gramke got third at 182 pounds, sophomore Landon Scott got fourth at 106 pounds and freshman Bryan Burnett got fourth at 132 pounds. Varsity wrestlers of the week are Gramke and Burnett.

The JV wrestling team traveled to Gardner this past weekend and the following individuals placed: sophomore Aaron Kennedy got first at 160 pounds, freshman Luke Marx got first at 138 pounds, sophomore CJ Beran got first at 113 pounds freshman Corey Deaver got third at 106 pounds, sophomore Regan Wright got fourth at 170 pounds and freshman Coltyn Bray got fourth at 113 pounds. Junior varsity wrestler of the week is Kennedy

The girls basketball team won the El Dorado Wildcat Classic basketball tournament this past weekend. The lady Jags soundly defeated Wichita West 77-25 on Thursday, Jan. 26, followed by a 51-39 win over Wichita East on Friday, Jan. 27, and then a convincing 60-18 win over Wichita Collegiate in the championship game on Saturday, Jan. 28. With the championship, the girls brought home numerous individual awards. Junior Stephanie Lichtenauer was named the Most Valuable Player for the tournament. Joining her on the All Tournament team were juniors Tanner Tripp and Brooklyn Sloop. Junior Mackenzie Conklin was selected to the All Hustle team. Lichtenauer was the Leading free throw percentage winner, making 11 out of 12 for 91 percent Congratulations to all the girls on a great tournament.
