Daily announcements for Monday, Feb. 27

If you’re interested in being on newspaper or yearbook next year, come to the meeting today in the theater during seminar. Even if you’ve already filled out an application, come anyway. If you’re interested in applying, we’ll have all the information you need at the meeting.

Our first Prom work night will be tonight directly after school. Anyone who wants to get started during seminar is welcome to come then.

English teacher Kristen Crosbie’s AP 11 extra credit opportunity showing will be tomorrow starting at seminar and ending around 4:30 p.m. in A201.

Do you think you have an amazing singing voice? Do you have some weird or awesome talent that you think is worthy of
sharing? Or do you have a life interesting enough to share with the rest of us? MVTV will be choosing students to be on
a new segment called Jaguar Spotlight. Stop by broadcast journalism teacher Cindy Swartz’s room to nominate yourself or a friend.

Applications are now available for Broadcast or Video Production classes for next year. Pick up an application in room
C103B.

Any student interested in taking Pre-AP chemistry needs to complete a spring assignment. They are available in the
counseling office.

Voyager students: don’t miss out on “Brain Games- Seeing Is Believing …or is it?” on Tuesday, Feb. 28 during blue three.

Today is the first day of track practice. Practice will start at 3:15 p.m.. We are going outside today, so dress warm and we will see you at the track after school.

Attention all seminars: we are going for the Green with a food drive to help support Harvesters. We will register as a school and the school that collects the most meals will win the traveling trophy and a free entry into the 2013 St.
Patrick’s Day Parade. Here is how it will work: bring in needed canned food, veggies, fruit, boxed meals, peanut butter and soup to your seminar and Jag members will come and collect it. We will keep track and the seminar that collects the most will receive an ice cream sundae party. We will collect through Thursday, Mar. 8. Please be generous.

Any student interested in participating in a spring break or summer humanitarian trip to Guatemala please see art teacher Jodi Ellis to pick up a flyer with pertinent and time sensitive information.

Prom tickets are now on sale. Here is the breakdown of the cost: $5 for every senior who paid last year as a junior. $40 for every senior who did not attend last year. $40 for juniors until Friday, Mar. 2. $45 for juniors until Friday, Mar. 30. $50 for juniors until Friday, April 13. $55 for juniors and seniors at the door. $3 for parking passes bought in advance- you must keep them and have them for that night. $5 for valet parking the night or bought at Club 1000. See registrar Deana Thom for tickets.

Juniors: there will be an informational meeting about the NROTC Scholarship process during seminar on Wednesday, Mar. 1. If you are interested in attending, please sign up in the counseling office.

Congratulations to the Jaguar Forensic team who took second place at the annual league speech tournament at Turner
High School on Thursday, Feb. 23. Fourteen medals were earned, and special recognition goes to junior Megan Marquardt who took the gold medal, first place in prose, senior Josh Duden, who took a second gold medal, first place in impromptu, and senior Brayton Young, who took the silver or second place medal in humorous solo acting.

The wrestling team finished seventh place at the Kansas 5A Wrestling State Championships this past weekend in Wichita, Kansas. This is the highest finish ever for the wrestling Team. The team competed hard and wrestled together as team and had great success. The whole school community should be proud of these young men. Sophomore Tyler Dickman and senior Zach Callahan finished second Place in the state.

The girls basketball team staked a claim to the Kaw Valley League Championship with their impressive 43-15 win over
Bishop Ward on Friday, Feb. 24 night. This marks the first time in school history that the girls basketball team has won the KVL championship. Congratulations lady basketball players.

The boys basketball team closed out its regular season with a 59-47 victory over Bishop Ward, improving its record to
12-8. The Jaguars will open substate playoffs with a home game against Wyandotte on Wednesday, Mar. 1 at 7 p.m. The
boys’ team appreciates the outstanding support from students this season and looks forward to another great crowd on Wednesday, Mar. 1 night.

The boys basketball team has been nominated as this week’s Hy-Vee High School Team of the Week. Voting ends at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Mar. 1 so please spread the word to vote early and vote often.
