Daily announcements for Monday, Feb. 13

National Honors Society will host the “know ya Boo” dating game show today during seminar. Each grade, including the staff, will be represented by one couple in the competition. Come support the couple from your grade and enjoy the entertainment with hosts senior Devin Rudicel and senior Robbie Weber. Tickets are only $1 at the door. Come see how well couples know their boo.

Today there will be aboys soccer meeting during seminar in the auxiliary gym.

There will be no bowling practice today, but all bowling team members need to stop by coach Adam Wessel’s room today after school.

Next week is WPA spirit week. We start Tuesday, Feb. 21 with Pajama day. Wednesday, Feb. 22 is twin day. Thursday, Feb. 23 is super hero day. Friday, Feb. 24 will be spirit wear day.

Any student interested in helping with a pancake dinner at Prairie Ridge Elementary on Wednesday, Feb. 15 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. please see art teacher Jodi Ellis to sign up. Anyone helping will get a free pancake dinner.

All boys planning on trying out for tennis need to turn in their physical and other paperwork to coacj EricAmmerman as soon as possible. The deadline to turn in paperwork is Wednesday, Feb. 22. If you need the proper forms, please go to the web site to print them. If you already turned in paperwork for another sport, please let Ammerman know.

Are you responsible, dependable, and interested in tennis? Then consider becoming a manager for the boys’ tennis team this spring. If you are interested, please see Ammerman in room B234.

Students: help the student council “Kiss Off Leukemia” by purchasing a Valentine’s Candy Gram for $1 at lunch this week. Candy Grams will be delivered during seminar on Tuesday, Feb. 14, and the proceeds from the sale will benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

StuCo members: work your lunches everyday this week to sell candy grams.

Voyager Students: Sharpen your skills: join us for the Socratic Seminar on “Critical Reading” planned for Wednesday, Feb. 15 during blue one. You must sign up and take a packet to read before the seminar.

The first day of track practice is quickly approaching. All students interested in participating in track need to turn paperwork in to coach Chris Dunback as soon as possible. If you need a copy of the paperwork packet, he has extras. The first day of
practice is on Monday, Feb. 27.

Attention all seminars: We are going for the Green with a food drive to help support Harvesters. We will register as a school and the school that collects the most meals will win the traveling trophy and a free entry into the 2013 St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
Here is how it will work: Bring in needed canned food, veggies, fruit, boxed meals, peanut butter, and soup to your seminar and Jag members will come and collect it. We will keep track and the seminar that collects the most will receive an ice cream sundae party. We will begin collecting on Wednesday, Feb. 15 and collect through Saturday, Mar 17. Please be generous.

All Jag and Art Club members interested in helping with the Chili Bowl sale, please come sign up in Ellis’ room, art teacher Erica Crist’s room or art teacher Jerry Howard’s room.

Any student interested in participating in a spring break or summmer humanitarian trip to Guatemala please see Ellis to pick up a flyer with pertinent and time sensitive information.

Heart to Heart is still in need of help on Saturday, Feb. 18 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Heart To Heart Warehouse to help organize and assemble care kits and medical supplies. Please sign up on Ellis’ door- more information is posted there.

Buses will run as usual for Eudora Ed-Tech students on Thursday, Feb. 16.

The Mill Valley Jaguar Wrestling Team finished in second place at the KVL Wrestling tournament held here on Saturday. The Jaguars scored 148 points to Tonganoxie’s 193. The Jaguars finished ahead of Bonner Springs the number four ranked team in 4A and Lansing the number 10 ranked team in 5A. The team wrestled very hard and starting peak at the right time. The Jaguars came away with 10 medalists:
Sophomore Jake Ellis got first at 138 pounds.
Senior Zach Callahan got first at 285 pounds.
Tyler Dickman got second at 126 pounds.
Sophomore Christian Service got second at 145 pounds.
Senior Devin Ellison got second at 160 pounds.
Sophomore Landon Scott got third at 106 pounds.
Sophomore Daniel Gray got third at 120 pounds.
Sophomore Bryan Burnett got third at 132 pounds.
Junior Derrick Paxton got third at 170 pounds.
Sophomore Jake Gramke got third at 182 pounds.

After falling behind 17-4 in the first half the Lady Jags had an inspiring rally to defeated previously unbeaten Bonner Springs 34-33 last Friday, Feb. 10 night at Bonner. This pushes their winning streak to 13 and improves their season record to 13-3.  Tomorrow night the squad travels to Basehor to take on the Lady Bobcats at 6 p.m.

The Mill Valley girls basketball team has been nominated as this week’s Hy-Vee High School Team of the Week. Voting ends at 1 p.m. Wednesday, so please spread the word to your facility and students to vote early and vote often. Here is the link to our voting page:
