The Jaguars hosted the Lawrence Lions at home Friday and defeated them 69-38. The Jags put on both incredible offensive and defensive performances. Notable players of the first quarter being JaKhai Carter scoring 10 points and Reece Riedel who put up five.
Head coach Kurt Bangle highlighted the significance of these two facilitating the offense.
“I mean, that’s who they are between the two of them [Reidel and Carter],” Bangle said. “They tried to take Reece [Riedel] away, and JaKhai [Carter] really stepped up today, Recce [Riedel] has had some really good performances over the past several games, those two are kind of our engine.”
the Lions couldn’t get anything going only scoring six points in the first, but they showed some signs of life in the second quarter tacking on 13 points on to their score. The Jaguars extended their lead 43 to 19 at the half.
Lawrence was able to capitalize off a distracted Mill Valley defense by adding on 10 points to the score cutting the lead drastically in the third, according to Bangle.
“The third quarter was not good. That’s why I had a called timeout, Bangle said. “It’s really hard, we jumped on them so early. It’s hard to stay focused for some high school kids, but we really focus hard on trying to take passes away, make it really tough on them to reverse the ball.”
Given some time to rebuild a solid momentum the Jags widened the lead drastically in the fourth allowing junior Stone Zambo to have an important role late in the game.
“I know I had a couple good passes and shots,” Zambo said. “I think my games still developing. It’s not at its full peak, I’m really liking it right now. I feel like I can get to the rim, I’m crafty, Play hard defense, and get good rebounds.”
Zambo also believes the team has found their groove and is ready for the rest of the season.
“We really grew off of the mistakes in this game,” Zambo said. “I really love this team I think we got a good future ahead of us, I love these guys, it’s a blessing to play with these guys.”
