Implemented at the beginning of this school year, Ceramics is now separate from Sculpture. Initially, Mill Valley was the only 5A school that didn’t have a Ceramics class. Art teacher Erica Crist explains the reasons for the decision.
“With the increase in number of students, we had to split the classes so there was more to offer,” Crist said.
Principal Tobie Waldeck made the official decision to separate the two classes. Sculpture uses more materials and has a longer process than Ceramics.
“There’s just too much to cover everything in one semester,” Crist said.
Crist also teaches Advanced Ceramics, allowing students to continue using the same medium and learning more about the process.
With the new separation, students will have a wider variety of classes to choose from.

i believe all sections should be in the same art class ilove art and think all types are fun. The kids may want to take all types but just cant the solution is to have larger classes.
