Annual blood drive draws large turnout

Saving one life at a time, the annual fall blood drive held on Thursday, Oct. 28 had a good turnout.

The drive was sponsored by the Community Blood Center. During the blood drive 94 units of blood were donated, which is four more units than last year’s drive.

“I was pleased,” StuCo sponsor Erica Crist said. “I thought we attacked the blood drive.”

The blood donated to the Community Blood Center stays within the local area to help those in need. In the spring a Red Cross-sponsored blood drive will be held.

Sometimes students allow themselves to be intimidated by a fear of needles or fainting and talk themselves out of donating blood.

“Students who are scared should remember that you are in a way better position than the person that needs blood,” Crist said. “Suck it up.”

Blood is life and by participating in the blood drive students are saving a life.

“It helps someone out. It’s not that hard,” senior Allison Meier said. “You might forget about it in a week but the person you’re helping will remember that for a long time.”
