Wrestling defeats Blue Valley 64-18

Jaguars lose only one match at home meet

Junior Peyton Bendure wrestled in the 172 pound weight class winning his match.

The wrestling team defeated the Blue Valley Tigers 64-18 in a dual meet hosted at Mill Valley on Wednesday, Jan. 7.

Coach Travis Keal was pleased with his team’s performance.

“Their intensity was good and they did a lot of things we worked on in practice,” Keal said. “There’s a tough tournament on [Saturday, Jan. 10] so it’s good pre-practice going into that Derby tournament.”

In total, 12 wrestlers competed for Mill Valley in varsity, with one wrestler in heavyweight . Each wrestler competed in a match against a single wrestler from Blue Valley High School.

The meet went well for  junior Seth Burnett.

“[My match] went pretty well,” Burnett said. “It was pretty quick. I went against a JV kid, so it wasn’t that tough.”

Burnett was also satisfied with the team’s results as a whole.

“We did great,” Burnett said.  We only had one loss, and all of the wins were either [technical victories] or pins.”

For Keal, the team can always have room for improvement.

“We just need to make sure, every time we’re going to practice or stepping on the mat, that we’re improving,” Keal said. “January’s a tough month because it’s so long and there’s lots of meets. We just need to be ready for the postseason in February.”

Burnett also has high goals for both himself and the team.

“I think as an individual I can place at state,” Burnett said. “As a team we can place at least third at state.”
