Week three: we welcome you to Munchkinland

Week three: we welcome you to Munchkinland

Week three was a lot of work for the cast.  Many people were called three of the four days of rehearsals.  Practices were underway with many singing Munchkins and Ozians.

The actors had set pieces to work with this week, since the Emerald city and Munchkinland set pieces were built last Saturday.  Munchkinland and Emerald city are actually both the same set piece, but during intermission the face plates will be swapped, creating a different feel.  Munchkinland will have a flower face plate and Emerald city will have a rounded green face plate.

The cast has less than two months to perfect their performance and, to some people, production has been slow.  Some of the main scenes have not been staged yet, but that’s no reason to be worried.  By the end of this week the cast will have finished half of the Munchkinland scene, “Merry Old Land of Oz,” “If I Only Had a Heart,” and the finale.

The parent meeting held on Tuesday, Sept. 20 had a few new changes as well.  During the meeting costume designer Konnie Schuman had new visions for the costumes this year.  Most of the actors will have to provide their own clothing, such as colorful socks that don’t match for the Munchkins and Army Vests for the Winkie warriors.

Set work will continue on Saturday, Sept. 24 and Dorothy’s house, a wagon, Tin Man’s and Scarecrow’s set pieces will be constructed.  Next Monday, Sept. 26 the Munchkinland sequence will be completely blocked and work will continue on the first act.  Keep checking back every Thursday for updates from the Oz blog.
