The volleyball team competed at substate Saturday, Oct. 23. The team defeated Pittsburg in their first game, winning in two sets 25-10 and 25-14. After their win against Pittsburg, they fell to SJA in three sets, losing the first set 25-12, winning in the second 25-22 and losing in the third set 25-22. After falling to SJA, the team lost their chance to advance to state. Despite not making it to state, the team had a successful season with a final record of 30-7 and finished as Sunflower League Champions.

According to senior Sydney Fiatte, communication played a part in their win against Pittsburg.

“The first match I was super excited for, I was so eager to get on the court and start dominating,” Fiatte said. “The key to success in the first game was communication and defense. Defense wins games and communication makes everything fall into place.”

Senior Brylee Peterson agreed that working together was an important factor to their success in their first match.

“Our main key to success was to play together as a team,” Peterson said. “We did that and that’s what led us to our win.”

Even though the team came up short against SJA, Peterson believed that the team played well.

“I am so proud of how everyone finished,” Peterson said. “I know we left everything we had on that court and that’s all that matters.”

Fiatte thought the team played well this season and is proud of what they achieved.

“The season overall was a great season and we’ve had one of the best records that Mill Valley has ever had,” Fiatte said. “We played lots of great, talented teams and had many hard fought matches and that is all I could ever ask for.”
