Kansas City is known for their barbecue, and rightly so. With so many options it is hard to pick just one restaurant. We are ranking the top barbecue joints in KC.

Joe’s Kansas City Barbecue is the best food in town. Originally started in a gas station, Joe’s has grown into one of KC’s most famous restaurants. Consumers can choose to carry out or dine in. On weekends the line is often out the door. If you don’t want barbecue they offer delicious salads. As for sides, their fries are to die for.

What to order: The Z-Man sandwich

Q-39 is a relatively new restaurant. Located in downtown Kansas City, Missouri, it has quickly drawn a big crowd. When walking in, the atmosphere might strike you as hectic, but the crowd is a good thing. Another weekend hot spot, be prepared for a wait if you don’t call ahead.

What to order: No Jackin’ Around sandwich

Located in KC since 1957, Jack Stack Barbecue is a KC barbecue staple. With five locations around KC, there are a variety of place you can try their delicious food. Jack Stack is a family restaurant, now in their third generation. They now offer nationwide shipping, so you can get their food anywhere.

What to order: Poor Russ sandwich

Arthur Bryant’s Barbecue is another great option. Founded in 1920, they have been in KC for almost 100 years. Presidents Harry Truman and Jimmy Carter along with celebrities George Brett, Wilt Chamberlain and Jack Nicholson have visited the restaurant. New Yorker columnist Calvin Trillin even called it the “best restaurant in the world.” Arthur Bryant was known as the king of ribs, and we definitely recommend you check them out.

What to order: Ribs

Zarda’s Bar-B-Q is a great option whether dining in, going through the drive-through window or catering. With five varieties of sauces, they have whatever your taste buds desire. Locations are on both sides of the state line, so wherever you are you can try it.

What to order: Average Joe sandwich
