Bright and early Friday morning, students from many different activities, including the football team, cheer, dance team and the marching band, gathered on the football field to film a segment for the TODAY show’s Friday Morning Lights segment.
For filming, students had to gather on the football field at 6:20 a.m. for a pep rally, which would be used during the segment. The football team, cheer team, dance team and marching band gathered on the field, while other activities and sports filled the bleachers. While this was a unique experience for many, football coach Mike Strack thought the process went smoothly.
“I thought it went really well,” Strack said. “Everybody seemed to be comfortable. Everybody seemed to be doing a good job. Hopefully it looks as good as it felt out there.”
While the segment aims to feature the football programs of schools across the country, Strack believes it is also important to showcase other aspects of the school
“I think it’s an opportunity to show that we have a great school full of great teachers, students, administrators, but also a school that represents a great community,” Strack said. “I think it shows that as well. So it’s just a really great opportunity and a cool event.”
Jaguar Leadership Corps sponsor Lauren Stringer hopes the segment will spotlight all of the other activities at the school.
“I think it brings attention to our incredible football program, but also the band, the leadership opportunities, the newspaper, MVTV, and also a really good opportunity for all of our staff and
people,” Stringer said.
While the early call time was a struggle for some students, senior Ben Houdek thinks it is an incredible opportunity for the school to be featured.
“It’s important to highlight the effort that some of the organizations at the school put in for just a weekly football game, just shows all the different people involved,” Houdeck said.
