“Breakfast is the most important meal of the day” is a phrase everyone grows up hearing, yet many high schoolers walk out of their house every morning on an empty stomach. This could be due to a lack of hunger or time, but either way students who have a stressful day of school work ahead of them should always eat a healthy breakfast.

A meal before leaving the house will increase overall brain productivity, meaning it will be easier to learn and retain information from those early morning classes. When I eat a healthy breakfast before leaving the house I am able to focus on my lesson, instead of watching the clock waiting for it to be time for lunch. According to a study done by Rush Medical, eating breakfast significantly boost metabolism and helps burn more calories throughout the day. Breakfast tells your body that it does not need to conserve as many calories for the rest of the day, letting it burn calories instead of saving them. This helps with weight loss, so in summary, eating can help you lose weight. The most important plus side to eating breakfast each and every day is that it tastes great. Why would you choose to miss out on a delicious meal?

Many students would argue that their sleep is more important than breakfast, but as a girl who has experienced the drastic difference between a day with a full breakfast and a day without it, I can’t agree. After the first few weeks of school this year, I grew into the habit of snoozing my alarm and not eating breakfast. The days when I did not eat until eleven can only be described as exhausting and stressful.

Eventually, I came to my senses and started setting my alarm just a few minutes earlier so that I was able to start my day off on the right foot. As a girl who loves to go to bed late and wake up late, it was difficult for me to sacrifice even just ten minutes of my sleep, but I can happily say that it has been worth it.

Breakfast truly is the most important meal of the day and no one should miss out on it. Sleeping in a few extra minutes might seem like the better option at six in the morning, but in my experience, an early morning meal outranks ten minutes of sleep.
