Spirit squads host annual Spirit Spreader

The cheerleading and dance teams hosted approximately 700 other cheerleaders and dancers for the annual UDA and UCA Spirit Spreader on Thursday, Sept. 5.

A crowd of approximately 700 cheerleaders and dancers from around Kansas City gathered in both gyms on Thursday, Sept. 5 for the annual Spirit Spreader event. Spirit Spreader is a traveling event held by the United Cheer and Dance Associations to bring high school spirit squads together to learn new cheers, dances and stunts.

The cheer squad got a chance to host the event for the first time.

“It was nice that we were hosting it,” senior Alyssa Hobson said. “We have two gyms so it was easier to hold everyone.”

Cheerleading and dance officers arrived to the

school early to set up the check-in area and assist UDA and UCA officials.

“We had to greet [other schools] as they arrived,” Hobson said. “Throughout the day we just had to know generally help people find their teams.”

Hosting the event required work, however, the team had fun with the new activities they participated in.

“The stunts [UCA] comes up with are creative,” Hobson said. “We get to try new things other than our competition stunts.”
