The girls softball team ended its regular season due to the cancellation of their last game at Tonganoxie on Friday, May 11.

The Tonganoxie game would have been the team’s 19 and 20th game, however due to the weather and Tonganoxie’s other events, the girls finished the regular season 13-5.

“[Tonganoxie] had graduation and other games this week, so they were unable to reschedule,” senior third baseman Kaitlyn Jackman said. “I was disappointed that we couldn’t find anyone else to play against to get in more games.”

The team will continue to practice to prepare for regionals in the upcoming week.

“Practices this week are going to be important,” Jackman said. “We really need to work on eliminating errors and continue to work hard. The team is going to have to stay focused and continue to work well together.”

Regional seeding will be held on Saturday May 16 to determine what teams will be playing.

“[The cancellation of the game] will probably not help us at regionals,” sophomore shortstop Kristen Kelly said. “We will have to play a harder team first.”

The team hopes to repeat their win at regionals to move on to state.

“Our goal is to make it to state,” Kelly said. “Hopefully we will win the first round by practicing double play drills. We need to improve defensively.”

As the team continues to practice, Jackman has high hopes for rest of the season.

“We always have a great time when it comes to this part of the season,” Jackman said. “We want to represent Mill Valley and make every one proud.”
