With an 18-2 record to end the softball’s team’s regular season and winning the title of KVL league champions, the players have nothing but positive things to say about how well they played.

Senior left outfielder Kelli Rutherford is thrilled with the record.

“18-2 is awesome. It’s really exciting we’ve done so well, our team just came together as a whole this season,” Rutherford said.

Senior right outfielder Olivia Frey is also proud of the team’s record.

“I think it’s great. It’s such a good accomplishment. This is the best we’ve played in a long time,” Frey said.

The team plays at home Monday, May 14 for the beginning of regionals.

“I’m excited for regionals, because we should be able to win our games and then we will be statebound,” Rutherford said.

Senior first baseman Kilee Nolen is excited to play the first regional game at home.

“I’m happy it’s at 3&2 and I’m excited to hopefully play Miege. We beat them last year, so we could go to state if we beat them again,” Nolen said.

Frey adds how important staying focused is for the post season play.

“It’s really important to stay focused through this tougher competition, we can’t lose track of what we’re doing,” Frey said.

Rutherford hopes the team will be prepared enough for regionals and state.

“We haven’t had extremely tough competition yet so when we hit regionals, we might not be prepared for the tough competition.

Rutherford knows her team did well, regardless of how the post season ends.

“We are definitely capable of winning regionals and moving on to state,” Rutherford said. “Support from our fans at home games would help us a lot.”
