Soccer team loses 0-5 to Lansing High School

The boys soccer team fought hard under the bright lights in its game on Thursday, Sept. 29 against Lansing High School. By the end of period one, the score was 0-1 Lansing.

Second period came and Lansing turned it on, scoring three goals within four minutes of each other.

Head coach Arlan Vomhof knows Lansing brought its best.

“Lansing had their best two guys, they were really good,” Vomhof said.

Left mid-fielder freshman Teddy Gillespie believed the team could have done better.

“We could’ve won, we could’ve won more goals [hit] out of the air,” Gillespie said.

With 30 seconds left of the clock, junior Hugh Ebb made a last ditch attempt to score a goal, but the game ended with a 5-0 Lansing win.

Gillespie said the team ended the game better than it started.

“Near the end of the game we started passing a lot better,” Gillespie said.

Vomhof believes the team lost motivation.

“After we lost the second or third goal we had a mental breakdown and weren’t playing as well,” Vomhof said.

The team’s next home game is Thursday, Oct. 6 at 6 p.m. vs. Bishop Miege High School.
