Seven questions with musical cast member sophomore Emma Shaw

What is your favorite part of being in the musical?

Everyone is always goofing around and having a good time. If you mess up, nobody judges you, it’s always just about having a good time.

How would you describe your relationship with the other cast members?

We all get along well, it’s like we’re one big family. Everyone is always cheering up one another.

Why do you participate in the musical?

I figured it would be a new experience and help me get rid of my shyness. When participating in activities like a musical, it makes it hard to be a shy person.

What is it like performing in front of an audience?

It’s not as nerve racking as it would seem at first. Most of the nervousness that I tend to feel comes from anticipation. Once I am on the stage, I stop thinking about being nervous and perform at my best.

What is the most difficult task of being in a musical?

The hardest part is just making sure you have all of your lines and dances memorized. One person’s mistake can mess up everyone’s role.

What is your weekly schedule like for the musical?

Our schedule is complicated. At the beginning of the musical we had practice starting from after school and ending at around 5 p.m. As we near towards the live show we have to rehearse a lot more often and stay after school until 9 p.m. The closer we get to our live show, the more tension rises within the cast and we practice our lines and acting more often.

What is your favorite musical of all times?

Definitely The Wizard of Oz, its always been a fun musical to watch. Another one I enjoy is the musical Annie.
