Finishing off the homecoming festivities, football played Lawrence Free State Friday, Sept. 20. The Jaguars pulled off a win 31-23 against the Firebirds. Seniors Connor Bohon and Maggie Wieland were crowned Homecoming King and Queen at halftime.

As a student athlete, Bohon explains how juggling multiple things affected his Homecoming week.

“The entire week was a test of football, school and outside of school balance,” Bohon said. “I was trying to embrace the experience of the week while also focusing on doing my best to prepare for the game. There were times where I was feeling overwhelmed with all that was going on, but I am happy with how it ended.”

Showing her appreciation for Student Council, Wieland reflected on Homecoming week.

“The lead up to coronation was filled with so much excitement and fun,” Wieland said. “StuCo had everything planned out perfectly and made it so we got to have fun and feel the excitement along with the student body.”

Bohon describes how he felt when he was chosen as Homecoming King.

“It was hard to believe that I had won,” Bohon said. “I couldn’t stop smiling after they called my name. I had and still have such a feeling of gratitude towards the student body and Mill Valley as a whole.”

Addressing the students who casted a vote for her, Wieland expresses her gratitude.

“To everyone who voted for me, I really appreciate it and want them to know how much love I have for this school and the people who fill it,” Wieland said. “I’m grateful to have gotten the opportunity to even be nominated and people voting for me just means the world to me.”
