Musical seniors share final thoughts

Musical seniors share final thoughts

The Wizard of Oz was a very special production for the seniors this year. I got with four seniors of the cast to ask them a few questions about the production. Was it the cast itself that made it special? Was it the overall spirit of the show? Is it because Wizard of Oz is a treasured story for people of all age groups? Nobody really knows, but this year the musical took our hearts, and the seniors have a lot to say.

Seniors Ryan Wright and Grant Heinson are new to the musical this year, and they wished they tried out sooner.

“All I can say is it was a lot of fun.” Wright said. “There was a great sense of community and purpose. It was a lot of hard work, but definatly worth it in the end.”

Heinson agrees wholeheartedly with Wright.

“It was great doing something fun with my friends all the time.” Heinson said.

They both agree it was a rewarding experience and they would do it again in a heartbeat. I also got with seniors Alyssa Young and Brayton Young. Being their third year in the musical, they were used to the process of putting on a show, but the production this year was none like any other.

Wizard of Oz is a very special show; it has a lot of heart.” Brayton said. “We worked together as a team and became very close over the project, more than ever before. Acting is very exciting and I would like to pursue it in the future.”

Different procedures this year affected Alyssa’s view on the show, but nothing stood between her and her friends.

“Double casting and having tons of people on stage can make things hectic, but no hassles of any show can become between me and the friends I’ve made throughout this journey,” Alyssa said.  “There’s just nothing like it.”

The seniors will miss being in the musical and hope that the underclassmen continue to pursue theatre and put on great shows at Mill Valley High School.
