For junior Brady Watkins, track coach Chris McAfee’s room is his favorite spot because it’s where his teammates meet before going on preseason runs. “[It’s my favorite spot] because all of my friends can get together there. Since we don’t have any classes or lunches all together, McAfee’s room is always the place to go,” Watkins said.

Junior Brady Watkins treasures experiences in cross country coach Chris McAfee’s room

Through winter workouts, junior Brady Watkins has made many memories in room A215

After school during the winter workout season in cross country coach Chris McAfee’s room, A215, runners meet to discuss the day’s workout for winter training. Among these runners is junior Brady Watkins along with his friends, junior Mike Turner and seniors Riley Arthur and Thomas Hopkins.

During the winter, many cross country and track runners participate in winter workouts to keep in shape. Before each run, runners meet in McAfee’s room to hear the itinerary of the workout.

“Last year we went everyday during winter,” Watkins said.

Through these daily meetings in McAfee’s room, Watkins has found that A215 is his favorite place at Mill Valley because of McAfee.

“My favorite part of McAfee’s room is McAfee,” Watkins said. “Before winter workouts, he always got us hyped up and ready for the cold arctic winds outside. He is a really good energizer and gets us in the mood [to run].”

McAfee and his room have had an ample impact on Watkins. So much so that the room and McAfee have appeared in his sleep.

“My favorite memory [of McAfee’s room] was actually a dream,” Watkins said. “I was in McAfee’s room, and Steve Harvey was there.”

McAfee also appreciates Watkins enthusiasm and character in his room.

“I love having [Watkins] in my room. I think [he] is one of those people that always makes you smile when you’re around him,” McAfee said. “He always has a positive attitude and energy and connects with everybody.”

McAfee is humbled that Watkins considers his room to be so special.

“I don’t know why my room is special,” said McAfee. “We just meet there for running.”

Though McAfee may not know why, Watkins finds room A215 to be his favorite place at Mill Valley. This place has made many memories and has had a major role in Watkins’s high school experience thus far.
