Jags second loss in a row puts record at 5-2

 The second loss for the Jaguars season came against Bishop Miege High School on Friday, Oct. 14 at home, bringing their season record to 5-2.

The Jags attempted to score as they had the ball first, but after unsuccessful attempts, a forced punt by junior quarterback Skyler Windmiller was downed at the Jags 41-yard line, giving the Stags first and 10. The Stags then carried for several short yardage amounts, leading to a 20-yard touchdown reception with 4:37 left in the first quarter. After the extra point was good, the score was 7-0, Stags.

The Jags gained possession on their own 30-yard line with 4:31 left in the first quarter. After several small yardage gains, junior running back Kendall Short carried on fourth down to put the Jags at first and 10 on the Stags 30-yard line. Senior wide receiver Ethan Rice caught a pass on the 11-yard line putting the Jags at first and goal at the 8-yard line to end the first quarter.

After play resumed, Windmiller kept the ball to carry to the 3-yard line. On third down, Short moved the ball to the one-yard line. On fourth down, the Jags called a timeout. With 11:00 minutes left in the half, Windmiller scored the first Jags touchdown of the night. The kick was good, evening the score at 7-7.

Within seconds, the Stags scored their second touchdown of the night, returning the Jags kick-off for a touchdown at 10:47. The point after was good, putting the score at 14-7, Stags.

After numerous attempts by the Jags to increase their own score, the Stags took over on downs at 6:38. As play began, the Stags started off on their own 16-yard line. A 60-yard pass to the 24-yard line gave the Stags first and 10. A 14-yard pass then placed the ball at the 10-yard line. On second and three at the 3-yard line, the Stags scored their third touchdown. The score was 21-7 with 5:19 left in the half.

After the Jags gained possession, a loss of yardage leading to a forced punt which was downed inside the Stags 40-yard line. The Stags went from first and 10 at the 50-yard line to first and 10 at the 37-yard line with 3:19 left in the half. After a complete 37-yard touchdown pass, the Stags increased their lead to 28-7.

After the Jags were eventually forced to punt on fourth down with :51 seconds left in the half, the punt was blocked by the Stags, placing the ball at the 24-yard line. On fourth and goal, the Stags kicked a field goal at the 2-yard line to end the half with a score of 31-7, Stags.

The second half began with the Stags in possession. Junior defensive lineman Tim Thomas caused a loss of yardage with a sack a minute into play. The Jags were able to stop the Stags after a fumble on the exchange for a 3-yard loss, which then forced the Stags to punt on fourth down.

The Jags took over first and 10 with 9:24 left in the third quarter. On third and 12 at the 22-yard line, the ball was intercepted by the Stags, which they returned for a touchdown. The extra point was good, bringing the score to 38-7.

As the Jags seemed to be nearing their next touchdown while at first and goal on the 10-yard line, Short fumbled the ball and the Stags recovered at the 9-yard line.

The Stags ended third quarter first and goal at the 5-yard line.

When play was resumed after a post-quarter timeout, the Stags scored a touchdown, but a holding penalty was called. The Stags went for it again on second and goal at the 16-yard line. After a failed touchdown attempt on both second and third down, the Stags kicked a field goal from the 8-yard line to bring the score to 41-7 with 10:26 left in the game.

Both the Jags and Stags attempted scoring drives following the last touchdown, but no extra scoring was accomplished by either team.

The game ended with a Jags loss of 41-7.

The next game will be against Harmon High School at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 21 at home.
