Lockers are an essential part of high school, from keeping your stuff to getting pushed into them by bullies. However, despite the many lockers at the school very few students actually use them.
One of these reasons being the school doesn’t automatically supply them to students, instead if a student wants a locker they must go to the counseling office and request one which is often daunting, especially to new students.
Sophomore Hailey Batalia has come up with a solution for her friends who may find asking for a locker intimidating, she calls it a “community locker”.
“[I think a community locker is easier] because then [my friends] don’t have to request one,” Batalia said.

Batalia shares a locker alongside five of her friends who all keep their items together opposed to them each getting their own individual ones, her friend’s reasons ranging from social anxiety that keeps them asking or simply not knowing how to request a locker for themselves.
“[Students just] don’t know how to get a locker, or they think they have to pay for it,” Batalia said.
These misleading ideas about lockers may be a reason for the lack of students using the schools free lockers, according to Batalia.
“Now that we have more digital stuff, not a lot of people [use] lockers. When I’m [at the lockers] in the afternoon [to pack up], it’s basically empty,” Batalia said.
Another student who uses their locker for a reason beyond the norm is sophomore Isabella Page and her friends. They use their shared locker as a “snack locker”
“[We got the idea] off Tik Tok. And then we were like, ‘We should make this,’ and then, [we wondered] ‘Do we have to pay for [a locker?’ Page said.“[But it turned out] we just had to scan the [QR Code].”
